Useful Tips for Posing Nude

How to prepare yourself for a nude photography shoot

Professionally captured nude photography is an expressive art form which accentuates the body’s natural beauty and each person’s individual style in a variety of creative ways.

Nude photography is most striking when captured in sepia or black and white, both of which are favoured to dynamically emphasise the contours and features of the human body. Nude photography can be classy and stylish, eccentric and creative or sexy and suggestive.  Like any professional photography shoot, it does require trust in your photographer, forethought and a little planning to ensure that you are happy with the outcome.

Here are a few tips to help you with preparing for your nude photography shoot,  to help with the preparation process and to help with feeling confident on the day.

Reference shots

Create a file of pictures showing the kind of photographs you would like, and the poses you feel comfortable with which may help accentuate your best features. Are you looking for dramatic, athletic poses? Perhaps you prefer arty poses that are filled with passion and flair? Alternatively, you may prefer to be guided by your photographer as you unwind in front of the camera. There are so many diverse options out there that tell great stories. What’s your story?

Relax

Embrace your new venture into artistic photography and feel inspired to ease into the experience. Some clients find that they can relax easily in front of the camera and others feel more confident knowing that they have an experienced professional photographer to guide them through the process of their nude photography shoot. Speak with your photographer before your session to become accustomed to working with them and let them know if you are feeling a little nervous so that they can recommend a few simple ways to relax into the shoot on the day.

Simple poses

There is no need to force yourself into striking poses that don’t reflect your own personality. Be yourself. Be natural and love who you are in front of the camera. Leave it to the photographer to look for shapes and the perfect lighting to accentuate different parts of your body. Many are surprised to learn that the composition of a nude photograph doesn’t only include the physical body, but also a  combination of curves, lighting and shadowing, which complement one another.

Cover ups

Posing for a nude photoshoot does not necessarily mean showcasing your entire form. In the case of nude photography, there are several tricks to enhance the entire experience, and to help you feel more comfortable. Cover ups can be used in different ways while showing a little bit of skin. They can accentuate your personal style and add a creative flair to your nude photo shoot. Bring along a few props such as a guitar, a scarf, your high heels, or a simple piece of elegant material to add diversity and to help you feel confident during the shoot.
