Our recent annual awards saw the talented Lisa Thomas from Viva Fremantle win photographer of the year with her beautiful photographs capturing the essence of her subjects. We sat down with Lisa to discuss her inspiration and what is on the horizon for 2018.
What inspired your work in 2017?
Last year I decided to take my photography in a new direction. My goal was to let the personality of the client shine through in the images. To do this I worked closely with the client to ensure they were relaxed in the environment and comfortable to just be themselves.
What was some of your favourite images that you created?
This is a hard question as I feel very attached to all the images I create. Every image has a story behind it and I love bringing that out with every image I take. A style I have loved developing over the last year has been beautiful face shots. I feel these really tell the story of the person behind them.
What are some of your goals for photography in 2018?
To keep pushing myself and others around me to come up with new and innovative ways to amaze and excite our clients.
What niche do you enjoy photographing the most?
Pets! I’m an absolute animal lover and can’t get enough!
What creative artists are currently inspiring your work?
Lisa Visser, Steve Mccurry and Irving Penn these are just a few of my favourites at the moment but I draw inspiration from so many different photographers and artists every day.
